Title: Human Resources Compensation Specialist Reports to: Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Corporate Services Department: Human Resources and Corporate Services
Position Summary

The Human Resources Compensation Specialist supports the SVP HR and Corporate Services with the overall management of compensation programs. This includes the maintenance of the company's job classification system (JSMC), ensuring consistency, competitiveness and compliance with legislation such as Pay Equity. This role carries the responsibility of participating in salary surveys and the analysis of their output. May create/design, recommend, communicate and implement compensation programs aligned with company targets and objectives. These programs may include (but are not limited to) job evaluation, performance appraisal, salary structure, salary surveys, and management of the company's short-term incentive plans. May participate in other areas of HR including, benefits and recruiting, depending on the successful candidates skills and experience.


The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:

• Evaluate all new positions in accordance with the company's JSMC and ensure Pay Equity compliance; • Manage the overall annual salary review process including communication, preparation of salary spread sheets and relevant compensation research and recommendations; • Correspond with Corporate Accounting and Executives to produce salary/bonus reports used for future forecasting & budgeting purposes; • Assist in preparing information for various government audits when required; • Prepare statistical reports summarizing various HR related information; • Design, archive and update position profiles in accordance with company's standards; • Complete compensation surveys to assist in external benchmarking; • Acts as a resource and subject matter expert in compensation programs; • Design of communication material relevant to compensation; • Maintain knowledge of current industry and compensation practices through networking, attending seminars, research and course taking; • Create, maintain, run and distribute reports as needed; • Ensure data integrity of HRIS system, regarding matters of compensation; • Create, update and maintain the Associate Master Spreadsheets with relevant compensation information; • Practice continuous improvement by assessing processes and procedures and eliminating non-value add activities; • Responsible for maintaining the JCMS and ensuring its accuracy; • Execute special projects as assigned, which may include payroll backup.


Academic/Education Requirements:

• Four-year Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and/ or Human Resources Management Certificate; • Professional Designation (CHRP, CCP) an asset;

Required skills/Experience:

• Minimum three years experience in compensation administration, analysis and design; with at least 2 years experience of HRIS exposure; • Knowledge of general HR practices; • Knowledge of data base management including report writing (SQL and OBDC); • Familiarity with Payroll • Familiarity with broad-banding point-factor compensation plans and other financial management reward programs; • Strong mathematical aptitude, analytical skills and knowledge of statistical concepts; • Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to deal with Associates and various levels of management; • Must possess strong computer skills, excellent excel skills including the ability to use advanced functions such as Vlookup, Pivot Tables, linked worksheets, graphs, concatenation, etc.; • Must be very organized, be able to prioritize, and multi-task a variety of entry level tasks.
