A Linux systems-administrator with a minimum of 5 years experience and a BS Computer Sciences who is interested in re-locating to the San Francisco Bay Area.

DESCRIPTION

As a member of the organization's IT group, this position is centrally responsible for the infrastructure supporting the e-commerce operations. The role manages the definition, acquisition, assembly, and integration of a horizontally scalable platform enabling market-driven customer demand. By delivering systems according to industry best practices, the role owns the infrastructure supporting our customers. The role includes supervision and shared responsibilities with off-hours and weekend tier-II support, and acts as second level support for assistance on key enterprise systems when the servicing personnel for those platforms are not available.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Currently our web and enterprise infrastructure is co-located in a world-class, high-availability data center, however, we are interested in migrating systems to a hosted environment, utilizing AWS EC2. Our web systems utilize open source technologies leveraging standards based hardware. The Senior Operations Engineer role:

· Informs, supports, and enforces IT change control and versioning process

· Responds to infrastructure demand through design, project planning, integration, and maintenance

· Specifies and manages the acquisition of equipment to support expansion and new initiatives

· Manages WAN, metro fiber link, and related connectivity

· Configures and maintains a high-security environment utilizing centralized firewall services

· Supports uptime goals through proactive management of load balancing equipment

· Builds, integrates, and maintains production database, web, application and support servers

· Performs upgrade services to existing network, hardware, and software as required

· Coordinates system-wide back-up, restoration, and data-storage/retrieval

· Builds and maintains documentation for all NOC services and equipment

· Provides a secure public network to the enterprise's home-office and mobile users

· Responsible for DNS operability, redundancy, and accuracy

· Responsible for on/off hours support/escalation

· Collaborate effectively with other personnel in the organization, both technical and non-technical

· Responsible for working with vendors to establish and enforce contracts

· Trains and mentors junior systems administrator(s)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Minimum 5 years of Linux systems administration experience in a high-volume online service operations environment

· Previous working experience in on-call shift, 24/7 operations

· Experience working with AWS services

· Exhibit technical discipline, following established best practices: change management, incident tracking, escalation, and root-cause analysis among others

· Knowledge and hands-on experience with high availability technologies: load balancing, RAID systems, clustering, and replication among others

· Experience working with hardware and software vendors, hosting services providers, and ISPs

· Experience running a production environment consisting of MySQL databases, Apache and Nginx web servers, Ruby-on-Rails application stack, BIND and TinyDNS DNS services

· In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP protocol stack, and essential network services including DNS, SMTP, NTP, NFS

· Experience in network administration, CCNA certification desired

· Experience maintaining monitoring systems (Nagios, Cacti)

· Familiar with scripting languages applied to systems administration

· Familiar with one or more configuration automation tools (Puppet, Chef)

· Previous e-commerce experience highly desired

· Excellent communication skills
