Active Recreation, Health and Wellness Worker,
The Nook Children's Program The Nook is an innovative Literacy/Arts and Recreation After School, Summer, Special Events and Suspension Help Program for local children 6-12 years of age whose families might be new to Canada, learning English as a second language, single-parent, and members of an ethnic minority or facing financial stress. We are presently looking for a highly-skilled and energetic individual to work with our staff team to develop/implement creative programming as well as provide effective on-site program supervision.

This is a part time contract position for one year.
Working hours are 24 hours per week from Monday-Friday.


Key Accountabilities:

• developing and facilitating daily creative activities and long-term projects with a focus on recreation, health and wellness, physical activity, hat accomplish program goals and are aligned with program objectives
• developing and implementing program structure, behavioral guidelines and procedures with a staff team
• assisting with outreach, orientation and training
• supporting staff with the effective care of high-needs and special needs children
• supporting staff with the daily set up and closing of the program site, including effective care of program materials and equipment
• communicating with parents and guardians, and fostering an inclusive environment for families
• communicating with school staff, community centre staff and other local stakeholders
• assisting with program documentation
• participating in regular staff meetings, completing daily logs and incident reports as required
• assisting with Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre's large scale community projects

Qualifications: Must be a recipient of Ontario Works Benefit

• 2-3 years experience working with children or youth in a leadership role
• Experience implementing innovative arts and literacy activities with children
• Excellent ability to communicate with children, youth and adults
• Excellent ability to manage conflict and practice creative problem solving from an anti-oppressive consciousness
• Criminal Reference Check from Toronto Police Services

Assets:
• Experience working in a non-profit environment
• Experience working with children who are learning English as a new language
• Ability to communicate in languages other than English especial Mandarin, Cantonese, Portuguese and French
• Experience in implementing large scale, community-based projects

Rate of pay is hourly $15.93 per hour + 4% vacation pay.
