Frontier College is a national, not-for-profit literacy organization founded in 1899. We work with children, teens, adults and families who need help to improve their literacy skills. We deliver volunteer-run, community-based programs across Canada through partnerships with a variety of organizations. Through volunteer mobilization, youth leadership development and community capacity building we enable communities to reach their literacy and learning goals.

We are seeking a dynamic, well-organized individual to fill the position of Toronto Community Intern. This part-time internship (average of 6 hours per week) will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to gain valuable direct program delivery and volunteer management experience. This internship includes an honorarium.

The Toronto Community Intern is based out of the Frontier College National Office in Toronto. The Intern will report to Robyn Stanwick, Community Coordinator (Toronto) who will provide training and mentorship.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:
•Work with Community Coordinator with respect to general program development and support, volunteer management, and reporting and communication
•Assist in coordinating volunteer recruitment, screening and training
•Assist in providing support and supervision to program sites
•Supervise students
•Assist in the coordination of conferences and workshops
•Maintain timely and regular communication with Community Coordinator
•Provide assistance to the Toronto Community Team and other duties, as assigned from time to time

•Knowledge of literacy and community development principles
•Energetic, resourceful, strong sense of initiative
•Able to think critically, solve problems and manage details
•Ability to provide leadership and to work collaboratively with others
•Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask
•Excellent spoken and written communication
•Computer skills (MS Word, Excel and Internet)
•A positive learning attitude

Additional Assets:
•Able to work a flexible schedule -- some evening and/or weekend work may be required from time to time
•Prior experience (volunteering/tutoring) with a Frontier College program
•Familiarity with the Regent Park community

Honorarium: $2100
Term: Aug 21 - 24 (Training) Sept 1 - April 30
Hours: Tuesdays 2:30 - 5:30pm, plus an additional 3 hours per week (based on availability)
