HR Generalist

About Our Client

Our client, a manufacturing company located in Vaughan, is looking for an HR Generalist to support a team of union and non-union employees with payroll, pension and benefits, and overall HR activities. The company offers a stable work environment, and strong benefits.


The HR Generalist will be responsible for performing a diverse range of functions including but not limited to:

• Manage and deliver all day-to-day operational HR activities for employee relations, recruitment and selection, attendance management, performance management, benefit and pension administration.

• Work closely with managers and supervisors, to provide direction and guidance in the management of staff; identify and support timely resolution of issues impacting employee and company performance.

• Support employees by addressing inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.

• Organize and participate in the execution of recruitment strategies inclusive of job advertisements, screening resumes, scheduling and conducting interviews, reference checking, preparing job offers.

• Ensure human resource management, payroll, benefits, and pension administration activities are legally compliant.

• Manage the administration of the payroll, benefits and pension programs.

• Responsible for the full-cycle payroll, inclusive of year-end reporting.

• Process weekly unionized hourly and bi-weekly salaried client payrolls using ADP software.

• Analyze data downloaded from Time and Attendance software

• Communicate and correspond with government agencies and Company pension actuaries.

• Calculate vacation accruals and prepare quarterly reports.

• Set up new hires and terminations on the System.

• Complete ROEs, T4s, severance and special bonus payments.

• Calculate and perform special payment processing as required.

• Responsible for accurate deductions pertaining to taxable benefits, garnishments, source remittances.

• Administer group insurance benefits including enrolling/terminating employees.


The following are the minimum requirements to be considered for this role:

• 3-5 years previous experience in a true HR Generalist role within a unionized environment.

• Certified CHRP designation or near completion.

• Strong administrative, interpersonal and communication skills.

• 3 or more years of handling a full-cycle payroll experience within a unionized environment.

• Proven knowledge of the Pay@Work, People@Work and EZ Labour systems.

• Comprehensive knowledge of payroll and employment legislative requirements including Human Rights, ESA and OSHA.

• Experience working Microsoft Office Suite, proficiency knowledge of Excel, Word, ADP and Outlook.
