full time 500px Front-End Developer (Downtown Toronto)

We are looking for a highly experienced Front-End Developer / Designer to help us create a next level UI/UX on the web and mobile. You will be responsible for creating advanced CSS (SCSS), front-end JavaScript, clean, scalable HTML that is compatible with all modern browsers.

You will be working with tiny static pages like and all the way to massive projects like 500px Market and beyond. Your primary focus will be on executing high-level tasks, like 'Build a better looking Market with new customer in mind', or 'Build a beautiful app page for API apps'.

The site is fast-changing, so be prepared not only to execute on existing design patterns and code, but also to think where and how the web will look in 2013 and beyond.

Results of your work will directly impact millions of users around the world.

Required skills

-Create beautiful code in HTML, CSS, SCSS
-Be very knowledgeable of jQuery and be able to write common front-facing Javascript/Coffeescript
-Be highly visual person as well as quality-oriented
-Write cross browser code for modern browsers (we will not ask you to support IE6)
-Be able to create wireframes, mock interactions and explain UX before starting to code
-Experience of working in RoR environment is a plus

-Improve a photo page at 500px with 2013 in mind. E.g. Code it up. Explain UI/UX choices.
-Create HTML5 virtual museum (museum consists of 5 art pieces) walkthrough. Explain UI/UX choices.
-Create a restaurant web-site with 2 pages (menu and location) in HTML5, utilizing only icons, CSS3, animations. Focus on making it unusual. Explain UI/UX choices.
-Create a working wristwatch using only HTML5, CSS3. Explain the thinking process.
