Merchandising Manager

Reports to
VP Merchandising

The Merchandising Manager is responsible for the development of customer facing and in-store merchandising programs to maximize the profitable sales of products sourced by Category Managers & Bargain Hunters as well as being a key contact for our store associates into home office on merchandising related matters.

Utilizing input and insight from the VP Merchandising, the Category Managers and the Manager Planning & Allocations, the Merchandising Manager will lead the development of product promotional programs such as the flyer and consumer email blasts to achieve customer image, sales and profitability objectives. This will include product theming, deal stories, item selection and pricing. The Merchandising Manager will also coordinate and create in-store merchandising programs designed to grow profitable sales and enhance our customers' store experience. This would include developing and communicating end & pallet display merchandising programs, seasonal merchandising events and standard operating procedures (SOP's) for the merchandising of product categories. The Merchandising Manager will also serve as a key resource to our stores on product and merchandising related issues.

Core Responsibilities

• Develop flyer product pagination, events, themes and deal stories for the approval of the VP, Merchandising
• Select product content and set pricing for flyer to achieve both sales, margin & customer image objectives; ensure that all content is complete & accurate
• Develop product themes, item selection and pricing for other product sales driving communications such as email blasts, in-store events, etc.
• Be the key everyday contact for marketing to ensure the timely and accurate product of all marketing materials
• Develop, create and manage a regularly issued merchandising guide for the stores including end displays, pallets, impulse sales opportunities, seasonal guidelines & changeovers, new product arrivals, etc.
• Create & execute appropriate regional or individual store merchandising programs to take advantage of specific market opportunities
• Work with the VP - Merchandising & the Category Managers to identify & implement new merchandising initiatives to grow profitable sales
• Develop and document in conjunction with the Category Managers and District Managers SOP's for the display and merchandising of product categories (e.g. plan-o-grams, zone-a-gram
• Assist stores with any home office or vendor product & merchandising issues, concerns & opportunities
• Analyze the performance of the merchandising programs in order to improve future results

Requirements

• University degree in business or administration preferred
• Demonstrated understanding of retail and retail merchandising through a minimum of 5 years' experience in a fast paced retail environment at the home office or store level
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong planning and coordination skills
• Very organized and disciplined
• Sound judgment and shrewd decision making skills driven from strong analytics
• Ability to work with little or no supervision
• Requires a high degree of professional integrity, ethics, and confidentiality
• Strong customer & store service focus
• Experience in and understanding of PC skills, specifically Microsoft packages such as Excel, Word and Access
